Canton Concert - April 18,2009
Thanks to all you fans for making this concert an exciting one. The week began with an overnight trip to Austin and the State Capitol where a proclamation was read by Rep. Dan Flynn honoring Tony's 80th Birthday while Tony was on the House Floor. He was given a plaque and the flag that flew over the Capitol that day. Then on Thursday, Athens,Texas honored him by designating April 12th, as "Tony Douglas Day in Athens, and presenting him with the "Key to the City,"
The rain stopped and the sun came out Saturday evening just in time for all of you to join Tony in what he likes to do best--sing country music for all of his fans.
To make the occasion even more special, in March Tony and Mim celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Pastor Andy Fannette of the People's Church in Jacksonville, Texas invited Tony's family and the public to join his congregation the following Sunday morning in a ceremony to honor Tony's 80th Birthday. After the ceremony, backed up by three of the Shrimpers, Corey Elrod performed a number of songs for the congregation ending with the tribute song he wrote about Tony. After that everyone was treated to a wonderful lunch and fellowship.
All in all, it was a wonderful week. Tony, Mim and their family want to thank everyone for friendship, support, and helping to make this a memorable 80th Birthday and 60th Wedding Anniversary.
